Nine hundred and forty-five years ago today, Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon ruler of England, died at the Battle of Hastings. "Danelaw," West Saxon and Mercian rules and codes was abolished in favor of Norman laws; all ties to Denmark/Scandinavia and the old Norse religion were severed.
